Things That Make You Go Hmmm?
First things first. What doe the title of this section have to do with music? First one to write it on the board wins a prize! Hint: It was way before you were born.
As you progress through this lesson, I will be posting various questions and inquiry statements on the board. As we introduce new material, please keep the following questions in mind. BY the end of the unit, you should be able to combined previous knowledge with information learned in this unit to answer the questions like a pro!
-
What is public relations and why does it matter?
-
How important is a press release? (explain)
-
What positive and negative changes would happen to the word if PR firms didn't exist?
-
How can a person or a band be marketed to the public in the same manner as a product?
-
Why do businesses try to cultivate relationships with the media?
-
How can I integrate online marketing tactics to drive traffic to a band website?
-
How do bands increase their conversion rate and create a high LTV from loyal fans?
-
How many revenue streams can you think of that can be added to a band's portfolio?
What Will We Be Creating?
Glad you asked. In this unit, you will create the following items:
Package Design: A CD cover that fits into a real CD case. (Sidenote: CD's are these round things that we used to listen to on our huge portable players - see picture. We swore that music could never get any better or more convenient than being placed on a CD. We also swore that mullets and neon clothes would never go out of style, but I digress.)
Print Ad: A flyer made by manipulating a professional photoshop flyer template. It will look awesome, trust me!
Web Design: A website that promotes the band and contains elements required of an electronic press kit. We will review the C.R..A.P. Principe so that you follow good web design principles.
Logo Design: A logo and t-shirt design. If your group wins the contest, you will print your logo on a shirt (yours to keep) and we will show it off near the cafeteria.
Video: A music video. Premiere Pro will be used to create a music video that shows all members, includes fades, titles, and green screen effects.
